About University

The Greater Western area of Sydney, Australia is home to Western Sydney University, originally known as the University of Western Sydney.

The university was founded in 1989 as a federated network university through the merger of the Hawkesbury Agricultural College and the Nepean College of Advanced Education.

The university merged with the Macarthur Institute of Higher Education in 1989. In 2001, the University of Western Sydney changed its organizational structure from a federation to a single institution with many campuses.

Western Sydney University has replaced the University of Western Sydney as the name of the institution following a rebranding in 2015.

A $40 million grant from the Australian Government Education Investment Fund, however, allowed for the Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment to be officially launched in 2012.
Some of the world’s largest and most sophisticated facilities for studying the consequences of climate change are located at Western Sydney University.

The Centre for the Study of Contemporary Muslim Studies gave rise to the Religion and Society Research Cluster.

The institution continues to place some emphasis on post-secularism, multiculturalism, and religion. Since 2014, Cristina Rocha has served as the center’s director.

There are 11 Research Institutes and Centers at Western Sydney University.

The NSW Agricultural Society established the Hawkesbury campus in 1891 as an agricultural college. In Parramatta, the Female Orphan School building, whose cornerstone was set by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1813, is owned by Western Sydney University and has undergone renovations.

In Australia, Western Sydney University was ranked 26th in 2020 by the QS World University Rankings. The academic pursuits of the institution are divided up into “schools” of several academic faculties.

  • Possess an unconditional admissions offer, or be enrolled full- or part-time in the School of Physics at the University of Sydney’s Physics Honours program.
  • Have completed your undergraduate studies with a Distinction average, or the equivalent.
